Are You Chittin' Me?
The Lowly Chit
In the early days of role-playing games, dice were not near as prevalent as they are now. At that time, there was an actual shortage of dice in the marketplace. This led to the release of chits in some early printings of Dungeons & Dragons™. While it is hard to believe now, players around the world carefully cut up these precious cardstock number generators and placed them into various containers from which they drew forth their character’s fate. TSR's original sheet of chits is pictured below.
Nowadays, polyhedral dice are found in abundance. They are made from every imaginable material; they come in sizes both large and small; they are peddled by near every vendor that has the remotest connection to these wonderful games we play. But deep in the history of the hobby, lies the dusty and long forgotten chit!
Videos, books, seminars and articles galore are dedicated to dice, their development, their important role in the tabletop hobby and their collectible aspects for the discriminating gamer. But the use of the chit is an often laughed at moment in gaming history that warrants little more than a chuckle.
Today and every April 1st, we will honor the chit by including a printed, color-coded set of chits free with every online order. In 2024, we began this annual celebration of the chit with our first homage - The Critical Chit!
This year, we return with The Holy Chit! While supplies last, any order placed on April 1 will have one of these sheets included for free. These will not be available by any other means throughout the year so grab yours while you can!
No fooling - this is definitely a serious offer!
